Science based social innovation.

Technologies for social wellbeing

Throughout the last decades several countries have made significant efforts on improving access of citizens to material goods. This endeavour has achieved great progress but social wellbeing remains as a focal point that needs to be addressed. In this context, the Ministry of Education of Chile has provided funding for the initiative led by Universidad de Santiago de Chile entitled: “Institutional Improvement Plan for International Competitivity. Integrating Research and Development from Information Technologies, Psychology and Neuroscience to develop high impact innovation eco-systems”. This new perspective will allow for improvement on people’s quality of life on different domains such as healthcare, workplace and educational environments.

How to achieve this?

The proposal involves an interdisciplinary approach that gathers experts from Psychology, Informatics and Neuroscience, among other disciplines. This collaboration will promote the creation of innovative products and services that will influence society, improving quality of life for people in Chile and abroad. In this scenario the Innovation Centre on Information Technologies for Social Applications (CITIAPS) was created to provide a working platform for researchers to meet, discuss and jointly resolve different issues that are currently affecting a given population. This exchange of perspectives aims to obtain an innovative and effective solution that could subsequently be transferred to national and international markets.

Software Lab

Additionally, other research labs from Universidad de Santiago de Chile contribute and complement our investigations from their specific expertise. Two examples of this collaboration are the School of Psychology – Psychophysiology Lab and the Engineering Department – Cybernetic Lab, where Neural Networks and Artificial Intelligence topics are addressed.
